Wrong in so many ways!!!
Wrong in so many ways!!!

Taking their cues from the Liar-in-Chief, the people in the red hats (they are not the conservative majority), readily embrace the lies of their unimpeachable (pun intended) leader. Trump is allowed to vilify anyone or anything that does not toe the mark in his fascist world. He can tell a lie over and over until the red hats start to repeat it as truth. We have seen this in history before, but not so much in our history. Trump whines incessantly about every person or institution that he perceives as a threat to his authoritarian rule. There can be no logical, legal, ethical, or moral view but Trump's. Maybe I gave way to hyperbole a bit. I can't really recall an instance where Trump claimed to have the moral high ground on any subject. I freely admit to having voted for Trump in 2020 and 2024. The 2024 vote was a big mistake. I held my nose and voted for Trump because he was the only alternative to a person I consider to be hopelessly unqualified to be president. At least I had seen four years of Trump, and the wheels of the republic wobbled but didn't come completely off. Here are the things I didn't count on in a second Trump term. (1) He learned a lot from his first term. In 2016 he selected highly qualified cabinet members. Many resigned or were fired because Trump refused to listen to them. This time, he appointed weak yes-men and women who can't even speak without raising their hands. Rubio in the Zelinsky meeting was a prime example. He looked like a 6th grader who had been sent to the principal's office. (2) His alliance with some of the richest people in the country has bought him control of the Republican-led Senate and House. It's not unusual for a president have a numbers advantage sometime during his term but this is different. Every incumbent knows that if he/she steps out of line they will be "primaried". Trump will find a loyal yes-man to run in the party's primary and outspend the incumbent massively. (3) Trump's propaganda machine runs 24/7. He has convinced his loyal followers that Elon Musk is an altruistic volunteer public servant who is magically saving the taxpayers money and is strongly suggesting that every taxpayer will be getting a $5000 check from the government every year. (4) Trump is quickly dismantling or reorganizing much of government without input from anyone. Trump loyalists cheer the idea while apparently ignoring the consequences. As a long time and fairly vocal conservative, I am getting lot of pushbacks from my conservative friends when I discuss any of this. Most are good natured about it while the more serious actually take time to give reasons for why they disagree with me. We can enjoy the debate and remain friends. Some who engage me are not so thoughtful. They ignore the actual issue and start attacking me personally. I wonder where they learned that tactic.
