What does it mean to be a "Compassionate Conservative"?

I'm still learning. I thought I understood what it meant when the Bush presidents talked about it, but maybe it needs to be redefined in 2025. I have heard from two lifetime friends since I started this blog. One is a liberal who isn't sure there is such a thing as a "compassionate conservative". The other is every bit as conservative as I am, and he thinks I am more negative than positive about Trump. I don't think that is actually true, but I understand how one could get that impression. I am more likely to post a criticism of the president than to praise him, although I do both. Do those criticisms stand out only because not many conservatives want to risk telling the emperor when he isn't wearing any clothes? Perhaps I am flattering myself. It just seems to me like conservatives have congealed around Trump and don't take exception to much of what he does. Truthfully, it was no different a year ago when democrats closed ranks around the rapidly declining Joe Biden and only reluctantly stepped away from him as he collapsed before the whole world when he attempted to debate Trump.
So, am I a Compassionate Conservative or not? I hope you will help me find out.
